The most fundamental questions here are: How do we create peace in a region devastated by years of conflict and violence? What are the concrete steps that we can take to engage youth in reconciliation, to give them the opportunity and skills to create a new future for Africa?

Education

“Education is the key to unlocking the door that will eradicate poverty.”
  - Desmond Tutu

Thousands of children in Africa’s Great Lakes region are out of school because their parents cannot afford the school fees. Oftentimes, the children are forced by their families to stay at home and work in the fields. Without a family network to provide for them, street children must spend their days begging or working in order to support themselves from day to day.

Amani Africa strives for every child to be in school. The organization provides educational scholarships for children who have proven their commitment and dedication to education. Amani Africa also places a special emphasis on education of girls. Too often, it is the girl that is denied the opportunity to go to school, especially if she is responsible for caring for younger siblings. Through scholarships, Amani Africa supports these young girls throughout their educational experience.

Amani Africa currently pays for 250 children to go to school.

Primary school in Rwanda costs 27 US dollars per year.
Secondary school costs approximately 150 US dollars per year.
