Caroline Kleindienst

Creative Director

Caroline was born in Austria and attended the Academie of Fine Arts in Vienna. She first became interested in African culture and art while living in Paris. After her graduation in 2005, Caroline taught art at a small school in rural Namibia. She then spent a year working for the Amy Biehl Foundation Trust in Cape Town, South Africa, where she was the head of the creative art program. She also taught daily art classes in the township of New Crossroads for children 6-15 years old. In her classes, Caroline focused on the traditional art of South Africa and its role in modern society. She worked to create an atmosphere where children from this poverty-stricken area could express themselves through art.

Caroline recently moved to Seattle, Washington, to focus on her art and photography. She's helping Amani Africa to develop and launch a number of fundraising initiatives in the United States to support the Amani art projects in Rwanda.

Caroline will be traveling to Rwanda in 2008 to coordinate the mural project, a chaotic experiment in which the children of Nyamata will paint large murals depicting traditional Rwandan culture on the walls of the new school.
